  • According to alcoholism statistics and other alcohol related statistics, in the United States, non-alcoholic members of alcoholic families use 10 times as much sick leave as families where alcohol is not a problem. Moreover, 80% of these family members state that their ability to perform their work is impaired as a result of living with an alcohol abuser or with an alcoholic.
  • Of the women who report consuming alcohol during their pregnancy, 66% reported drinking in their first trimester; 54% reported drinking in their third trimester.
  • As many women under age 30 are drinking at levels that could be harmful to their unborn children, and because an estimated 45 percent of all pregnancies in the U.S. are unplanned, the babies of those women who do abuse alcohol may already suffer damage before mother discovers they are pregnant.
  • Research on behavioral problems displayed by children of alcoholics has revealed some of the following traits: lack of empathy for other persons; decreased social adequacy and interpersonal adaptability; low self-esteem; and lack of control over the environment.
