- An estimated 67% of eighth graders and 83% of tenth graders believe that alcohol is easily available to them for consumption.
- When an individual has developed a physical dependence on alcohol, withdrawal symptoms, such as nausea, sweating, shakiness, and anxiety, will occur when alcohol use is stopped after a period of heavy drinking.
- Alcoholics cannot control their drinking nor learn to drink in moderation. When an alcoholic drinks, they fail to recognize when they have had too much to drink.
- In educating physicians and other health professionals throughout this country, the subject of alcoholism is rarely addressed; the fact that these clinicians will be afforded many opportunities to affect their patient's alcohol habits when they begin practicing medicine is ironic.
