- In the past three years, the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento saw a 30 percent increase in children between 12 and 17 checking into the ER with injuries from binge drinking, with higher blood alcohol levels than in the past.
- Over time, excessive alcohol use can lead to the development of chronic diseases, neurological impairments and social problems. These include but are not limited to: Social problems, including unemployment, lost productivity, and family problems.
- Studies show that in the United States, 50 to 60 percent of physical attacks in the home involved alcohol use. One-third to one-half of all batterers are reported to be problem drinkers.
- In many cases, the signs of alcoholism are more present when an alcoholic doesn�'t drink. Alcohol dependence is often recognized by the withdrawal symptoms the alcoholic experiences while not drinking.
